An early goal from Liam Magee was enough for us to see off in-form Stockbridge in the Southampton Senior Cup second round.

The match saw us host the Robins for the first time since 2010 when we defeated them 3-2 in the Hampshire Senior Cup. Our Test Valley compatriots currently sit top of the Hampshire Premier League, the division below ourselves, and are looking to return to the Wessex League for the first time since 2013.

Our visitors beat Upham 5-3 in the first round, we were awarded a bye.

We made a few changes to our starting lineup and one of the players to come in from the start was Liam Magee. He took advantage of his opportunity to put us 1-0 up inside the first ten minutes. The forward pounced on a loose ball to fire home powerfully into the bottom left corner.

Stockbridge responded well and had their fair share of possession as we went into the break a goal up.

The second half continued to be a hard fought battle with both sides going close. In fact, both teams hit the woodwork twice and the away side thought they had bundled the ball over the line from a corner, only for it not to be given.

In the end, it was Magee's goal that was the difference. The Robins gave us a stern test and they deserve to be back in the Wessex League on this showing.

Victory means we are through to the next round of the Southampton Senior Cup. The third round draw hasn't been made yet but you can see the results here.
